Help me out here. I have in my mind a very clear image of Harry Mudd smoking Rocky Patel cigars, but I can not actually remember a single frame of footage that shows my favorite villain smoking a cigar.

So, was Harcort Fenton Mudd a smoker, or is my mind playing tricks on me?

Even if he never did smoke cigars, he just looks like someone who would be very comfortable with a stogie in his mouth.

This morning I read an interview with Grace Lee Whitney at startrek.com and, I have a new respect for her.

Grace Lee Whitney appeared as Yeoman Rand in 8 episodes of TOS when her character was quietly written out of the series with no explanation to the audience. There were a couple of different things happening behind the scenes at that time. First off, The Powers That Be had noticed that Yeoman Rand was becoming too close to Captain Kirk and that was going to really cramp the Captain’s style in later episodes. About this same time, Ms. Whitney claims that someone at Dezilu sexually assaulted her. She turned down the unnamed person’s advances and then the decision came down to get rid of Yeoman Rand.

For 30 years or so, Whitney assumed she had been let go because she refused the sexual advances. During that time she hit “rock bottom”, heavily into drugs and alcohol. When she found God and learned that Rand was going to get the axe regardless of the result of anyone’s sexual advances, it opened her eyes and she turned her life around. She actually went back to Paramount and made amends with a lot of people, including Gene Roddenberry, apologized for the drinking she’d bee doing during the show’s run, and admitted that she’d been operating under a false assumption for all those years.

What impresses me most about this wonderful actress is that in 45 years, she has never stated publicly who it was who assaulted her and what exactly happened. In today’s world of “reality TV” and the general public’s desire to get all the dirt they can on as many people as possible, it takes a person with a strong moral background to realize that even if the case had gone to court, this is not information that the whole world should have. It takes an even bigger person to go back to an ex-employer 30 years later and admit to being wrong about something they probably never thought twice about.

Grace Lee Whitney, now an 81-year old grandmother, is one classy lady.

Do you Star Trek fans recognize this creature?

Horta

We were having a debate about the Horta from Season One’s “Devil In The Dark”. The debate revolved around whether the creature looked more like a giant lasagna or a gigantic alien zit.

What do you think is the proper way to defeat this alien? Do you grab a fork and start eating as fast as you can before it eats you or do you grab a huge container of the universe’s best acne treatment and go to town?

Given how Dr. McCoy felt about twentieth century medicine (“cutting and stitching people like garments” “sounds like the g** d****ed Spanish Inquisition”) wouldn’t it be interesting if he could have met Dr. Phlox from Captain Archer’s Enterprise, either through time travel or through a really long Denobulan lifespan?

McCoy always used the latest technology available while Dr. Phlox preferred eels, leaches, and bat droppings instead of more “conventional” treatments like Ibuprophen, adapexin, or Tylenol.

Readers are encouraged to post in the comments how they think such a meeting might go.

Scotty AKA SantaHave you ever wondered why Scotty never showed up with a beard? If he ever did, he would have been surrounded by thousands of little children asking him for toys.

Until seeing this picture, we never would have realized just how much Captain Kirk’s chief engineer looks like the jolly fat man.
