The Incredible Hulk

On this date in 1978, the episode of The Incredible Hulk aired was titled “Earthquakes Happen”.

The episode borrowed heavily in both stock footage and storyline from the Earthquake movies that were popular at the time.

Plot Summary

David attempts to gain access to sophisticated gamma radiation equipment at a Nuclear power plant by impersonating a plant safety expert. Unfortunately, a massive earthquake occurs, causing a number of disasters which only the power of the Hulk can fix.

Did you ever notice that in the original Star Trek series, when the ship was under attack and everyone is bouncing around in their chairs, the chairs seem rock-solid as if they are bolted right to the floor, but when the same thing happened in The Next Generation, you can see the command chairs bouncing up and down like they’re equipped with monroe sensa trac struts?

I don’t know which I thought was stranger: the fact that even the little flimsy chairs like Spock and Uhura sat in never moved, or the fact that those big, heavy, recliner-wanna-be’s that Picard and Riker had looked like they were going to bounce all over the bridge.

The Incredible Hulk

After being pre-empted the previous week, The Incredible Hulk returned to television on this date in 1978 with its 10th episode, “Life and Death”.

The highlight of this episode is a scene in which David transforms to the Hulk after being given a lethal dose of a sedative and we get to see a dazed and confused Hulk.

Plot Summary

While on his way to volunteer for an unethical experiment on his DNA, David discovers that the doctor administering the test is involved in running an illegal adoption agency.

Did you ever wonder why the bridge of the original Enterprise was split-level? Our theory is that the command chair and navigation consoles were on the lower level with all the other stations on the upper level had to do with the fact that the show was made before the days of wiremold cable management systems and the space under the platform was used to hide the electronic spaghetti that made all those lights blink.
