Back in the eighties, one of our favorite movies was Real Genius staring Val Kilmer as a young genius who teams up with his hyper-intelligent classmates to develop a laser. Kilmer co-starred with Tom Cruise in Top Gun the following year.

Kilmer has been steadily working since those early days when he could easily turn the heads of young ladies. It seems that the years and success have not been as kind to Mr. Kilmer as they could have been, because these days his hair is thinning and his waistline is expanding like you wouldn’t believe. Here is a more recent photo of Val Kilmer.

One would think that someone as well-known as Val Kilmer would know where to find the best diet pills around and keep himself looking better than this mess.

We were watching Back To The Future recently and the question came up about putting auto insurance on Doc Brown’s DeLorean. What would happen if he got into an accident at a time before the policy was issued? Would he still be covered?

Or, on the other hand, what if he’s traveled into the future to a point past where his premium as due and then got into an accident?

Toward the end of Season One of Star Trek The Next Generation, in an episode titled “Arsenal Of Freedom”, the crew encounters a planet that has no life, the result of a long-ago war. On the planet they encounter an automated sales hologram who insists on demonstrating the weapons that it was selling – to both sides in the war. The weapon in question bears a striking resemblance to the Symbol LS2208 bar code reader sold by POS Micro.

One can’t help but wonder if the guy who designed this device was a fan of TNG, because the resemblance between the bar code scanner and the alien weapon is absolutely striking.
