Charles "Trip" Tucker III

Commander Charles "Trip" Tucker III

Of all the characters in all the various Trek series, our personal favorite has to be Commander Charles Tucker III, or Trip to his friends.

Born and raised in the South – Florida, to be exact – Trip is the sort of guy who might actually paint a rebel flag on the Enterprise‘s saucer section. We have long been of the belief that, in much the same way some people said that The Next Generation needed a of large box of tribbles, Star Trek in general needed a redneck or two.

Connor Trinneer did an excellent job playing Trip. One would never guess the actor didn’t grow up in the South, but rather in Washington State. Not only did he have the Southern accent down perfectly, but also the general redneck attitude that all engines must be made to go faster than the original designers intended. At one point in the series, the Xindi send a weapon to Earth that lays waste to all the Outer Banks foreclosures and cuts a nice, long trench across the Southern portion of North America, killing Trip’s sister in the process. Like a true redneck, Trip promises to move heaven and Earth to get back at the people who did this.

Without casting aspersions upon James Doohan’s Scotty or Levar Burton’s Geordi, Connor Trinneer’s Trip has got to be the most fun engineer in StarFleet history.
